How to Make Sous Vide Egg Bites at Home
Welcome to lesson six of the free Sous Vide Quick Start Course! Today we are going to be diving into how to make the popular sous vide egg bites at home.
Sous vide does wonders with steak, chicken, and other meats, but it's not ALL about the meat. Over the last year or two, one of crazes sweeping the nation and pushing sous vide into the spotlight has been the Starbucks Sous Vide Egg Bites.
These egg bites are simple, tasty delights that people love to eat for breakfast or snack on during the day. As the name implies, they are made using sous vide...and are really easy to make yourself.
So watch out Starbucks, here's an easy egg cup bite you can make at home!
And the best part is you can add any of your favorite ingredients. This version combines bacon, broccoli, cheddar cheese and shallots for a super-flavorful breakfast meal.
For a lighter egg bite you can replace the cream with milk, or use 1/4 cup cream cheese for a denser egg bite.
You can make them in any glass container but 1/4 pint or 1/2 pint Mason jars work really well. I've also made them in ramekins which create a great shape for the egg.
Sous Vide Egg Bites at Home
Egg Bite Ingredients
- 6 Eggs
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup diced cooked broccoli
- 1/2 cup crumbled cooked bacon
- 1/2 cup cooked shallots
Egg Bite Instructions
Preheat a water bath to 170°F (76.6°C).
Whisk or blend together the eggs, cheese and cream. Stir in the broccoli, bacon, and shallots. Pour into 4 Mason jars and lightly tighten the lids, using only the tips of your fingers. Carefully place the jars in the water bath.
You've now got 60 minutes of free time to read the paper, clean out your junk drawer, or just enjoy some good coffee.
After 60 minutes, carefully remove the Mason jars from the water bath, THEY WILL BE HOT!
The egg bites can be served directly in the jar, or by running a knife along the inside of the jar to remove the egg bite. You can also let the egg bites cool and then store them in the refrigerator to be eaten throughout the week.
Now you can make some delicious egg bites at home whenever you want!
