Wasserstein Sous Vide Precision Cooker SV102
The Wasserstein Sous Vide Precision Cooker SV102 is the first precision cooker made by Wasserstein. It is the classic "stick" circulator and uses a large spring clip to attach to the container.
What We Like About the Wasserstein Sous Vide Precision Cooker SV102
The Wasserstein SV102 has an easy to use interface, making the temperature simple to set. It heats the water at an average speed too, more quickly than the Anovas and a few other machines. It's power consumption and how loud it runs falls into the normal range for circulators. However, this model is pretty inexpensive. The temperature display faces out, making it easy to read from across the room or for shorter people.
What We Don't Like About the Wasserstein SV102
The temperature stability isn't as good as in some machines, but at 0.2°F it is good enough. The display on the unit fluctuates a lot more than our tests actually showed, which leads to a few concerns about the accuracy of the internal temperature monitor.
The unit doesn't feel as solidly made as other brands, especially the spring clip that holds the Wasserstein to the side of the container. The clip is fairly loose, so you can't really rely on it to hold the unit up. This can be an issue for deep pots; the circulator slides down into the pot until the water goes above the "max fill" line and unit shuts off.
There are no frills or additional features, such as WiFi or a timer, though this helps result in the lower price.
Our Overall Thoughts On the Wasserstein SV102
The Wasserstein SV102 is an all-around average sous vide machine, doing everything decently but nothing great. It doesn't have any additional features, which results in a lower price than many machines. It also doesn't feel as solidly made as some of the other machines. If you are really trying to save money, or if you have a machine already and just need an inexpensive second unit for the occasional dual-cook, then the Wasserstein might work well for you. Though we would also recommend checking out the comparably priced InstaPot Accu SV800 Sous Vide Immersion Circulator or Gourmia Sous Vide Pod.
