What We Like About the Rubbermaid 12 Quart Container

The Rubbermaid container is about 11" (28cm) square and 8" (20cm) deep which is almost the perfect size for sous vide cooking meals for 4 to 5 people. It easily holds several steaks or chicken breasts. The smaller size also means it heats up more quickly, saving time and energy. It's also transparent, which makes it easy to look at the food and ensure that it is staying under water and not leaking.

Polycarbonate has several advantages. It holds in heat much better than metal pots and they are also lightweight but heavy duty. Polycarbonate is also designed to hold up to high temperatures, which means there is no warping or leakage of potentially dangerous chemicals into the water.

I like that the Rubbermaid has handles on the side to make it easier to move it around. This is especially helpful when it's filled with hot water! It also has several sous vide lids that come pre-cut to work with many circulators, reducing the evaporation.

What We Don't Like About the Rubbermaid 12 Quart Container

It can be on the small size for larger meats, like ribs or a whole pork shoulder. It can also be a little unwieldy to store, since it is a large container.

Why We Recommend the Rubbermaid 12 Quart Container

This size of container is perfect for most small to medium sized families and the Rubbermaid product works very well. I've been using this in combination with my Cambro 12 Quart Container and I like both of them very much. I give the Top Pick nod to the Rubbermaid container due to the availability of so many pre-cut lids that the Cambro just doesn't have. If you do buy this container, I highly recommend you also pick up a sous vide lid to go with it.
